Growing a Different Culture: Turning an Idea into a Startup - Kingston
Time & Location
About the Event
In this event, the Kingston chapter of the S2BN welcomes Dr. Maurice Shen from BenchSci to discuss the opportunities that exist in startup companies. We will explore the environment of a job in a startup company and how this may differ from positions in larger companies in industry. We will touch on how you can get involved and skills you can work on during your graduate work that are essential for these positions.
BenchSci is a reagent intelligence platform that reduces the time, uncertainty, and cost of scientific experiments. Unlike PubMed, Google Scholar, reagent directories, and vendors, BenchSci uses machine learning to decode comprehensive open- and closed-access datasets, display published figures with no commercial bias, and allow researchers to search by important experimental variables.
Maurice Shen obtained his PhD. in Pharmacology from the University of Toronto in 2015. He is now the Head of Academic Relations and believes that the current research process can be greatly complemented by the recent advance in machine learning technology.
Pizza and Refreshments will be provided! Registration is FREE.
