Join the S2BN Kingston for a 2-event series on Scientific Writing. This first event will be an exciting evening discussion on scientific writing careers. Our panelists are industry professionals who will share their career path and thoughts from their own experience while highlighting the importance of writing skills outside academia.

Dr. Trevor Lane, Publishing Consultant
Born and educated in the United Kingdom, Dr. Lane is a publishing consultant and has nearly 25 years of experience helping authors communicate their research findings in journals, conferences, reports, proposals, and social and mass media. He has a broad background in the biomedical sciences, having graduated with an MA in Biochemistry and Chemical Pharmacology and a DPhil in Physiological Sciences (cancer research) from the University of Oxford. He held postdoctoral research positions in clinical oncology and genetics in Hong Kong, after which he served in a variety of senior editorial and publishing roles in medical and social science journals in Asia and the United States. From 2005 to 2015, he taught research communication and publishing ethics at The University of Hong Kong and from 2015 to 2018, he was Education Director and Senior Publishing Consultant at Edanz Group, Japan. Dr Lane currently serves as an elected Council Member of the Committee on Publication Ethics. He holds a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Trinity College London and a Postgraduate Certificate in English Language Teaching from the University of Reading.
Hanna Girndt, Writer and Grant Facilitator, GeIMA Biotechnologies
Hanna is a Writer and Grant Facilitator at The GelMA Company, a biotechnology start-up. She is responsible for creating both research and industry grants to support product research and development. She graduated from Queen’s University in 2020 with an Honour’s Bachelor of Science degree in Life Science with a minor in Health Studies.
Candice Tang, Senior Medical Writer, Six Degrees Medical
Candice completed her Master of Science in Applied Immunology at the University of Toronto where she used biomaterials to promote the survival of reparative macrophages in ischemic injury. Over the course of her studies, she developed a passion for science communications and has since served the roles of Research Communications Intern at the Canadian Cancer Society; Science Writer at the ORT Times newsletter of the University Health Network; and Life Sciences Journalist at Xtalks Webinars (Honeycomb Worldwide). Currently, she is a Senior Medical Writer at Six Degrees Medical Consulting, a medical communications agency based in Toronto, Ontario.
