About the Event

Description:

Join the Guelph S2BN Chapter on Wednesday, March 13th for an online interactive discussion with guest speakers Dr. Nina E. Weisser, Director of Multispecific Antibody Therapeutics at Zymeworks Inc., Dr. Danyelle Quinn, Medical Director at MEDUCOM Health Inc., and Donna Janzen, Director of Regulatory Affairs at Roche. During this session we will be celebrating the International Day for Women in Science by discussing the experiences and career pursuits of our incredible guest speakers!

Session Objectives:

  • Discover potential career options for women interested in pursuing a career in STEM.
  • Discuss the successes, obstacles, and barriers experienced by women currently working in STEM.
  • Learn the career pathway of women in advanced positions in STEM.

Speakers:

Nina E. Weisser, PhD; Director, Multispecific Antibody Therapeutics Zymeworks Inc.

Danyelle Quinn, PhD, MSc; Medical Director, MEDUCOM Health Inc.

Danyelle completed her PhD and MSc at the University of Guelph studying the role of the immune system in driving obesity-related chronic diseases including diabetes, heart disease and breast cancer, in collaboration with industry and government partners. Collectively, Danyelle has gained broad research experience within the Life Sciences in leading clinical trials, projects involving cell culture and rodent models of disease, and a provincial-wide survey. Her work has contributed to over 25 peer-reviewed publications so far.

Beyond her research, Danyelle’s passion for science also extends to education and outreach. She has a Graduate Certificate in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, served as a Scientific Journalist and has instructed multiple courses in the Life Sciences at the University of Guelph. She also served as a Bariatric Educator at a medical clinic for three years where she gained in-depth experience in the intersect between research, industry and clinical practice, inspiring her to pursue a career at MEDUCOM.

When Danyelle isn’t immersed in research and writing, you can find her on the soccer field, exploring live music or buried in a good book!

Donna Janzen; Director of Regulatory Affairs, Roche

Donna has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 30 years. At Roche Canada, she has had a variety of roles with Research and Development, Medical Strategy, Operational Excellence, Evidence Generation, and currently Regulatory Affairs. A common thread in Donna’s career is around data; whether it is generating it, curating it, or leveraging data within our regulatory and reimbursement dossiers to gain approval for Canadian patients to access innovative treatments. She has a passion for developing and mentoring people. Of interest, Donna completed her undergraduate degree at U of G, majoring in human biology and a minor in chemistry.
