About the Event

Have you ever wanted to find out how industry-leading companies and researchers are using artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) to advance their research and operations? Join us on Thursday, February 2nd, 2023 to hear from guest speakers using these cutting-edge techniques to deliver research advancements across the health, pharmaceutical, and biological landscapes.

Session Goal

Introduce students to the power and potential of AI/ML in driving medical discoveries from the   bench to the bedside.

Session Objectives

● Introduce the audience to AI/ML   

● Discuss how AI/ML is advancing medical research now    

● Consider the future of AI/ML in medical/clinical applications   

● Answer questions from the audience about career paths in AI/ML-related positions

Speakers

Peter Henstock is the Machine Learning & AI Lead at Pfizer.  His work has focused on the intersection of AI, visualization, statistics, and software engineering applied mostly to drug discovery but more recently to clinical trials.  Peter holds a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from Purdue University along with 7 Master’s degrees.  He was recognized as being among the top 12 leaders in AI and Pharma globally by the Deep Knowledge Analytics group.  He also currently teaches graduate AI, Software Engineering, and Computer Vision courses at Harvard.

Nadim Lalani, Project Manager, Health AI Implementation at the Vector Institute

Ali Madani is currently the Director of Machine Learning at Cyclica Inc., a leading Canadian biotechnology company focused on AI-based drug discovery. Dr. Madani is a Ph.D. graduate of the University of Toronto; alumnus of University of Waterloo School of Engineering; and attained a master of mathematics from the University of Waterloo. He also received his B.Sc. degree from the University of Tehran. He is an active member of the machine learning community in Toronto and speaks at world and Canada-wide conferences, webinars, and workshops about technology development, artificial intelligence, drug discovery, and cancer therapeutics. He has published several scientific articles in high-impact factor journals and contributed to technological patents on these subjects. As a believer in industry-oriented education and pro-democratization of knowledge, Dr. Madani taught courses, webinars, and workshops on topics like artificial intelligence, programming, and data science.
