S2BN Waterloo - Transitioning into Consulting

On November 24, 2020, S2BN Waterloo held an informational webinar about Transitioning into Consulting. Guest speakers Kanver Gill and Jacob Cohen shared their knowledge and experience about consulting at Deloitte. Attendees included pharmacy, science and business students who were taught how to leverage their existing experience to break into the consulting field.

Kanver Gill is a pharmacist with a Masters of Business Administration (MBA), who recently landed a job as a Senior Consultant at Deloitte. Kanver currently works in Healthcare Consulting, and uses his pharmaceutical and business background to work with a variety of clients such as large hospitals and technology companies.

Jacob Cohen is a honorably discharged combat medic, who holds a Masters of Science (MSc. with a focus in Pharmacology). He currently works as a Risk Management Consultant, where he uses his pharmacological and research background, and his extensive experience working with cannabis innovation, to work with various clients in the government and military.

In terms of transitioning into consulting as a healthcare student, both speakers emphasized the importance of networking and a willingness to learn. If healthcare students develop and market their unique skill sets effectively, the opportunities are endless. Kanver and Jacob suggested that students can start to build their experience by getting involved in research projects, public speaking events, conferences and networking opportunities.

As always, the video recording of the event is attached below for those who weren't able to attend!
